Race Recap: Frantic Frunzy, May 2nd

Frantic Frunzy was one of my first races post pandemic and it did not disappoint.

I signed up for this race knowing I’d be 16 weeks with the twins, but figured I’d be fine based on previous pregnancies where I carried small. I signed up and May 2nd ended up being a gorgeous morning! I felt good at the start and carpooled with my good running friend to the race. Due to covid we had staggered starts and the two of us started together which was awesome. We passed a few people in the first mile and I told her I’d keep us around a 7:45-7:50 pace if she wanted. She ended up getting muscle issues after the first mile (she was training for a 50 miler!!), so she peeled back and I continued off. The course actually ended up being WAY hillier than anticipated, but I enjoyed the beautiful weather and pretty park it was in and went with my planned pace. A guy who started before me was walking around 1.5 miles and I passed him, then he ran again and this basically continued the entire race except with him trying to forge ahead of me. It was annoying, but tends to happen in races that are smaller and the path was on the narrow side. In the last mile there was a pretty nice uphill and being pregnant I decided to just slow way down and jog it. An older guy passed me and cheered me on and I gave him a wave, props for saving energy to him! Then, of course, with .10 that guy came back trying to beat me, we were back and forth until a big mud puddle right before the finish line and I conceded out of not wanting to slip or ruin my new shoes – priorities and I wasn’t really hardcore racing prego anyway. I ended just over 24 minutes at a 7:50 pace, not bad for a pregnant chick with twins and I felt ok & safe keeping my heart rate in the 150/160 range. I met my friend at the finish who was close behind, got some post race munchies and celebrated an in-person race again together! We even another girl from our running group and chatted at the end of the race discussing the surprise elevations but good times getting back out there. Overall, great race and weather, I wish every race shaped up weather wise like this one!
